  1. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are a drug class used in the treatment of colic and musculoskeletal disorders in horses, infectious diseases in cattle, and as an aid in the treatment of mastitis in sows and dairy cows.
  2. Penicillins/Cephalosporins

Fera food scientists are able to highlight and quantify the levels of a range of penicillins and cephalosporins, within a variety of foodstuffs. We can also provide the evidence required by regulators to validate the levels of penicillins and cephalosporins within your food products.

  3. Quinolones (including fluoroquinolones)

Fera scientists can analyse food samples to detect residues from quinolones (and fluoroquinolones). We can also provide the evidence required by regulators to validate the levels of quinolones within your food products.

  4. Sulfonamides
Sulphonamides (also called Sulfonamides) are the oldest and remain among the most widely used antibacterial agents in veterinary medicine, chiefly because of low cost and their relative efficacy in some common bacterial diseases.
  5. Sedatives

Fera food scientists are able to highlight and quantify the levels of a range of sedatives, within a variety of foodstuffs. We can also provide the evidence required by regulators to validate the levels of sedatives within your food products.

  6. Malachite Green, Crystal Violet, Leucomalachite Green, and Leucocrystal Violet (Combined Package)

Fera’s specialist scientists in veterinary medicine residues conduct this test to highlight the levels of malachite green and crystal violet, and their metabolites leuco-malachite green and leuco-crystal violet, within your food samples. Fera can provide the evidence required by regulators to verify that the levels of both dyes within your food products are compliant.

  7. Nitroimidazole
Nitroimidazoles are a group of drugs that have both antiprotozoal and antibacterial activity and have been used, for example, to control histomoniasis (a protozoal infection) in poultry. In the EU they are prohibited from use as veterinary medicines.
  8. Thyrostats (Urine)
Thyrostats inhibit the production of thyroid hormones, with the resulting side effect of this being weight gain, mainly due to increased water absorption and retention. Due to the weight gain side effect, thyrostats have been illicitly used to increase the weight of cattle prior to slaughter.
  9. Tiamulin
Food safety experts at Fera can screen your samples for residues of the veterinary medicine, tiamulin, highlighting their presence and quantifying levels present. Tiamulin is a member of the pleuromutilin class of antibiotic drugs that is used in the treatment of bacterial infections particularly for pigs and poultry.
  10. Trenbolone / Zeranol
Fera scientists can undertake screening procedures to detect trenbolone and zeranol within food samples. Trenbolone is an anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS), used in veterinary to improves muscle mass, and appetite.
