A combined test for Powdery Scab (Spongospora subterranea) and Potato mop top virus (PMTV).
A soil bait test can help inform your planting decisions. As it vectors PMTV, control of powdery scab using resistant varieties and planting only clean seed on clean land can help to control both the symptoms of powdery scab and PMTV. Both cause rejections of both ware potatoes and processing crops.
Potato mop top virus (PMTV) Is one of the causes of spraing, the term given to a range of internal and external symptoms in potato tuber flesh consisting of brown, necrotic rings, arcs and flecks. Powdery scab (Spongospora subterranea) is a fungal blemish disease of potatoes. A cosmetic defect with small lesions occurring in the early stages of the disease, progressing to raised pustules containing a powdery mass.

Spraing is the term given to a range of internal and external symptoms in potato tuber flesh consisting of brown, necrotic rings, arcs and flecks. Two viruses can cause these symptoms, Potato mop-top virus (PMTV) and Tobacco rattle virus (TRV).
