  1. Potato brown rot & ring rot (Official EU Protocol) - Ralstonia solanacearum & Clavibacter sepedonicus
This test is to detect the presence of Ring Rot and Brown Rot in potato tubers.
  2. Rapid direct tuber test for virus in Potato (PVY)
This rapid direct tuber test includes Potato virus Y (PVY) as standard.

Further viruses are available for an additional fee. These are Potato leaf roll virus (PLRV) and potato viruses PVA, PVV and PVX.

  3. Standard growing on test for virus in Potato (PVY)
This growing on test takes six to eight weeks where tubers are grown on in the glasshouse and subsequently tested for various PVY strains and any specific viruses as requested using ELISA.
  4. Potato tuber test - potato mop top virus and tobacco rattle virus (PMTV & TRV)

Tests for the 2 viruses responsible for spraing, the nematode transmitted Tobacco rattle virus (TRV) and the Powdery scab transmitted Potato mop top virus (PMTV)

  5. Potato wash water test - Total count of soft rotting bacteria (Pectobacterium and Dickeya spp.)
An overall count of soft rotting bacteria in potato wash water.
  6. Cyst Nematodes (including Beet Cyst Nematode and Cereal Cyst Nematode): extraction from soil (1kg Soil)

An ISO accredited test for the extraction and identification of potato cyst nematode (PCN) species Globodera rostochiensis and Globodera pallida from soil.

  7. Potato spindle tuber viroid seed test by TaqMan® - (1000 seed)

The common symptoms of Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) can include stunted growth and changes in the foliage colour in extensively affected crops.

  8. Diagnose My Plant
We understand that every case is different and often you may not know the likely cause of the problem you have found is. For these cases we offer an examination of your sample to assess the most probable cause.
  9. Soft Rotting Bacteria (average tuber inoculum load) (100 tubers)
This test provides a total count of soft rotting bacteria in potato tubers.
  10. Fatty acid profiling (Bacterial culture identification)
Fatty Acid Profiling (FAP) is used to identify bacterial isolates and is accredited to UKAS ISO17025 standards. The profiles generated are compared against commercially available FAP libraries as well as our own in-house libraries generated using isolates from the National Collection of Plant Pathogenic Bacteria (NCPPB).
  11. DNA Sequencing (Bacterial culture identification)
DNA sequencing of 16S rDNA or housekeeping genes can be performed to identify bacterial isolates to a species or pathovar level. Testing can be performed on fresh isolates sent in to our labs or as an additional service to identify bacteria isolated from a sample sent in for testing.
  12. Spraing soil bait test - potato mop top virus and tobacco rattle virus (PMTV & TRV)

Tests for the 2 viruses responsible for spraing, the nematode transmitted Tobacco rattle virus (TRV) and the Powdery scab transmitted Potato mop top virus (PMTV)
