Selwyn joined the ecotox team in CCSS 10 years ago as Senior Bee Ecotoxicologist and now focuses on pollinator ecotoxicology. He is responsible for the delivery of pollinator related work and the development and expansion of the business and science capabilities within the team. He is a seasoned GLP Study Director with hands on experience in the delivery of countless GLP studies run according to internationally recognised methods (e.g. OECD, EPPO & SANTE) including lower tier laboratory testing through to higher tier semi-field and field studies. In addition to the ‘standard’ tests he regularly designs and runs bespoke studies to meet the specific needs of our customers.

He is an active member of the International Commission for Plant Pollinator Relations (ICPPR) and Fera recently hosted the Bee Protection Group’s 15th International Symposium on the Hazards of Pesticides to Bees. Selwyn is a member of a number of the ICPPR working groups and he co-chairs the Brood Working Group, who are currently working on the development of a Conceptual Framework for higher tier brood testing and a long over-due revision of OECD GD 75. The Fera pollinator team are directly involved with the development and ring testing of new bee toxicity testing methods to be taken forward as test Guidelines and Selwyn also acts as a UK representative on the OECD Expert Panel on Development of Honey Bee Testing Methods and Guidelines.

More about bee ecotoxicology

Our research expertise and scientific resources can help you to test your plant-protection products for their effects on bee survival, development and behaviour – helping you to develop products that are safe for bees and other pollinators. We work closely with the National Bee Unit, giving us access to a huge range of resources to support your risk assessments, including more than 150 colonies of honey bees and a highly skilled beekeeping team.
