Phil is Head of Sales for the Fapas® Proficiency Testing business within Fera and has been involved with proficiency testing in the food industry since 1990. Trained as a clinical microbiologist, Phil has extensive knowledge of culture media and experience in advising food microbiologists with issues and questions around traditional cultural methods. He has co-authored a paper describing the first use of a chromogenic culture medium for the isolation of Listeria spp. and the associated performance improvement compared to the non-chromogenic equivalent medium.
Phil has participated in the delivery of training for proficiency testing providers (Brazil, Turkey) and has presented at various PT and Quality conferences, seminars and workshops. Phil has worked closely with many of the world’s largest food and beverage manufacturing companies, to deliver customised PT programmes of varying complexity and size, from 10 to 400+ laboratories.
