Eleanor is the Environmental Fate and Metabolism Laboratory Manager at Fera. As Laboratory Manager, part of Eleanor’s role is to ensure that the laboratories and procedures performed are GLP compliant. Eleanor makes sure that the work produced is of high quality and actively investigates the improvement of our capabilities to suit customer requirements.
Eleanor began her career at Fera as an apprentice within the Environmental Fate and Metabolism team working alongside study directors in performing environmental risk assessment (ERA) studies. Following completion of her apprenticeship, Eleanor gained a permanent position within the environmental fate team as an environmental fate scientist. Eleanor has subsequently has taken on the role as laboratory manager. Eleanor has experience in performing ADME and plant metabolism, field dissipation, soil, sediment and water degradation studies using both radiolabelled and non-radiolabelled chemical substances.
Eleanor’s role also includes the line management of technical staff within a team covering the delivery of GLP environmental risk assessment (ERA) studies for a wide range of industry and research customers.
Regulations and restrictions on the use of chemicals to tackle plant and animal pests and diseases are becoming increasingly stringent, which means the range of chemical options available for tackling these threats is constantly being eroded. It’s essential to ensure that any chemicals used in the environment do not pose a threat to plants, wildlife and ecosystems, while ensuring they are effective against target pests and diseases.
