Earlier this year Fera’s Nematode team were entered into the Potato Review's first National Potato Industry Awards. Covering six categories, the awards offer a platform for growers, agronomists and suppliers of potato equipment or crop protection to demonstrate a commitment to raising industry standards. The judges were looking for organisations that have made a significant contribution to the overall success of the potato industry.
Our submission for the Industry Innovation Award focussed on the fantastic work the team have done to set the UK service standards for Potato Cyst Nematode (PCN) testing, identification, viability and monitoring. We are delighted to announce that we have been selected as a finalist!
The award ceremony will be held on Wednesday 20th November, the first night of British Potato 2019, where a number of the team will be attending the evening, so fingers crossed for a win!

Nematology Testing
Nematodes are microscopic pests responsible for billions of pounds of yield loss each year. Potatoes Cyst Nematodes (PCN) are considered the most damaging pest of potato crops in the UK with losses up to 35%. Plant-Parasitic Nematodes (PPNs) can be just as damaging, resulting in devastating adverse effects on the quality and yield of host crops.
