The European Union has confirmed it will no longer permit sales of the widely used actives in insecticides chlorpyrifos and chlorpyrifos-methyl; after 31/01/2020.
The move was expected after the recent report from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) concluded that “that no safe exposure level – or toxicological reference value – can be set for the substance.”
Once the commission formally adopts the regulations, member states must withdraw all authorisations for plant protection products containing the active substances. A period of grace for final storage, disposal and use of a maximum of three months may be granted by countries. After any products containing these actives cannot be sold within the EU.
