Perfect score for Fera in 2018 Environmental DNA Proficiency Test

Why is proficiency testing important?

Proficiency testing is an essential part of laboratory quality procedure, designed to provide evidence of the robustness of the testing to ensure that excellent quality service is delivered to customers. Fera has successfully participated in all environmental DNA proficiency tests since the creation of the assessment in 2017.

Fera, alongside eight other laboratories took part in the 2018 eDNA proficiency test (Great Crested Newt DNA in Pond Water (simulated) February-March 2018), scoring a perfect result where all 10 blind samples including positive, negative and inhibited results were identified.

Fera (laboratory number 001) was amongst only 4 laboratories to correctly identify all the samples in the test. See the results:
