Crops and Chemicals Europe 2017 - 8-9 February

Come and join us at Crops & Chemicals Europe, Berlin from 8-9 February where Dave Garthwaite, Pesticide Usage Survey Manager will be presenting technical insights from 50 years of Pesticide Usage Surveys.

This could help with driving forward formulations and optimise efficiency by using half a century worth of 'Big Data' to bring about lower product costs with this in-depth pesticide survey data.

Data on the usage of pesticides in Great Britain has been collected for the last 50 years and continues to be collected today. Our Pesticide Usage Survey team play a leading role in this, applying their skills, knowledge and experience to gather the data, produce guidelines and create powerful, accessible databases for all. We participate in research projects by conducting surveys alongside existing pesticide usage surveys, conducting ad-hoc surveys and by bespoke interrogation and analysis of the extensive databases we hold.

Fera is commissioned to conduct agricultural, horticultural and amenity pesticide usage surveys by the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) of the Health and Safety Executive. The surveys are funded from the pesticides charge on turnover, and the costs are paid to Fera by CRD.

Join us for our presentation on 50 Years of the Pesticide Usage Surveys by Dave Garthwaite, Pesticide Usage Survey Manager, Fera Science Ltd:

  • History of the pesticide usage surveys (PUS) and reasons behind data collection
  • Methodology used and types of data collected between 1965 and 2015
  • Changes in the use of insecticides in arable and selected horticultural crops between 1965 and 2015
  • Changes in the use of insecticides, biopesticides and biocontrol for strawberries
  • Using the PUS data to look at the impact of potential withdrawal of active substances
  • Collaborative EFSA funded European study using the PUS model - gathering operator exposure data
