Infected seed is the primary way of introducing lettuce mosaic to fields. LMV can also be vectored by aphids, which spread the virus within a lettuce field and can also introduce the virus into lettuce fields from infected weeds and crops outside the field.

This is a latent test to confirm presence or absence of Lettuce mosaic virus in seed stocks.

When sending plant pathogens and invertebrate samples from outside England and Wales for testing please email the Crop health team (crophealth@fera.co.uk) who will issue you with the relevant Letter of Authority to ensure your samples are not delayed upon entry to the UK.
